The Georgetown Hoyas are a mess right now. Sunday’s 29-point loss to Butler was the Hoyas’ 29th straight loss to a high-major program. It was also Georgetown’s 24th consecutive loss in the Big East Conference.

Thus, Hoyas’ faithful are hoping for a change. The fan base has grown tired of the head coach and Georgetown alum Patrick Ewing. The program has hit a new low after going 0-20 in the Big East last season.

The loss in front of its home crowd was another embarrassment for a once proud program. However, what transpired inside the Capital One Arena over a sign calling for change may have been just as embarrassing.

According to the blog site Hilltop Hoops, a sign got confiscated by arena security in the first half.

“When I asked the usher why it was being taken he said ‘Georgetown does not want any antagonistic signs in the arena.'”

When asked who instructed to remove the sign, security reportedly responded that “the call came from the floor.”

While fans want a change in coach, the ire of many points to another former Hoyas player in a significant role. Ronny Thompson, the son of Georgetown’s late legendary coach John Thompson Jr., is the program’s Chief of Staff. Thompson is perceived as the driver of the team’s current dreadful culture.

Georgetown currently sits in last place in the Big East at 0-4. The Hoyas lost to DePaul and Butler this week which are the Blue Demons and Bulldogs’ lone wins in conference play.

Ewing led the Hoyas to three Final Four appearances from 1982-84. With Ewing at center, the Hoyas won the 1984 national championship. After a stint with John Thompson III, Ewing was named head coach of the Hoyas in 2017.

In six seasons, Ewing has just one winning season. In 2018-19, Georgetown finished the season 19-14. He did coach the team to an improbable run to a 2021 Big East Tournament title. However, it’s been all downhill since, as Ewing is 11-35 since.
