Georgetown men's basketball postponing three games due to COVID-19?

The men's basketball team of the Georgetown Hoyas has confirmed that Wednesday's home game against the DePaul Blue Demons has been postponed due to COVID-19 issues affecting the Hoyas.

It appears that is only part of the story.

Matt Norlander of CBS Sports tweeted that Georgetown is temporarily pausing team activities because of coronavirus-related concerns. As a result, Georgetown's road games at the Providence Friars on Saturday and at the Marquette Golden Eagles on Jan. 20 are also expected to be rescheduled.

Georgetown hadn't confirmed Norlander's update as of the posting of this piece.

The Hoyas fell to 3-8 overall on the season via a 74-69 loss to the Syracuse Orange last Saturday. Assuming Norlander's report is accurate, Georgetown's next contest is a matchup at the Xavier Musketeers on Jan. 26. That game could also be postponed, though, if Georgetown personnel are forced to complete 14-day quarantine periods.

College basketball and the NBA are both facing COVID-19 predicaments that are only worsening as the halfway point of January approaches. The 22-ranked Oregon Ducks and No. 13-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers paused on Tuesday because of health and safety protocols, and Michigan State Spartans coach Tom Izzo confirmed on Wednesday that two players, including his son, recently tested positive for the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, a Wednesday showdown between the Atlanta Hawks and Phoenix Suns became the seventh NBA game postponed since the season tipped off on Dec. 22.
