Gonzaga-Baylor game canceled due to COVID-19 issues

One of the best college basketball matchups of the season — No. 1 Gonzaga vs. No. 2 Baylor — has been canceled due to COVID-19 issues.

Gonzaga and Baylor released a joint statement on the matter, revealing that two members of the Bulldogs traveling party tested positive for the coronavirus, including one player. The two sides will attempt to reschedule the highly anticipated matchup for a later date.

Gonzaga entered Saturday with a 3-0 record after defeating Kansas, Auburn and West Virginia. Similarly, the Baylor Bears are 3-0 on the season after taking down Louisiana-Lafayette, Washington and Illinois.

According to ESPN Stats and Information, Gonzaga could have become the first team to defeat three ranked opponents within its first four games of a season since the Arizona Wildcats in 2001-02. Baylor, on the other hand, was looking for its first-ever win against an AP No. 1-ranked opponent in program history.

Gonzaga will be in action again on Dec. 8 against Tarleton State, provided it clears COVID-19 protocols, while Baylor will take on Nicholls State on the same day.
