Kansas Jayhawks win national championship with largest comeback ever

The Kansas Jayhawks trailed by as many as 16 during the national championship game against the North Carolina Tar Heels, but overcame the deficit to win, 72-69. The comeback was the largest in national championship history and earned the Jayhawks their fourth ever national title and first since 2008.

Kansas trailed 40-25 at halftime, but wasted no time erasing UNC's lead with a 31-10 run in the first 10 minutes of the second half. The two teams then traded the lead back and forth down the stretch before David McCormack scored the last four points of the game for Kansas.

In the final seconds, North Carolina's Caleb Love had a chance to tie, but his three-point attempt came up short.

McCormack recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, as did his teammate Christian Braun who finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds. The Jayhawks also got quality play out of Remy Martin in the second half with the reserve guard hitting three three-pointers in the final 11 minutes.

North Carolina was led by Armando Bacot, who scored 15 points and 15 rebounds, despite suffering an ankle sprain Saturday during the team's win against Duke. He re-injured his ankle during the final minute of the game Monday and was unable to return during the final seconds.
