Darian DeVries hasn’t been leading WVU Basketball very long, but he’s already putting in work to build a solid program. On Thursday night hours after West Virginia’s only 2024 signee Carmelo Adkins requested a release from his letter of intent, DeVries locks up his first high school recruit.

KJ Tenner announced his commitment to the Mountaineers on X (Twitter), quickly prompting Tucker DeVries to offer a “Let’s goooooo!! Bright future ahead!” response of his own.

Tenner’s commitment to WVU comes just days after he was released from his obligation to Drake. Tenner asked to be released after DeVries accepted the West Virginia job.

Tenner, who won Tennessee’s Mr. Basketball award this year, is a 6-foot prospect out of Cordova High School in Memphis. Tenner originally signed with Drake during the early period back in November.

Before committing to Drake, Tenner received offers from Arkansas State, Bradley, Central Michigan, Murray State, North Alabama, Texas State and others. Tenner also had interest from Memphis, Ole Miss and Tulane during his recruitment.

Tenner averaged 23 points as a senior and led the city of Memphis in scoring with 28 points per game as a sophomore.

DeVries has already brought over his son, Tucker, to West Virginia and has contacted other Drake players in the transfer portal.
