Local Kentucky media reacts to Wildcats trailing at halftime against Oakland

Many Kentucky fans expected the three-seed Wildcats to coast by Oakland and easily advance to the Round of 32 in this year's NCAA Tournament. However, a tightly contested first half has led to Oakland actually having a 38-35 lead at the break and Wildcat fans haven't been at all bashful about sharing their frustrations.

Most of the frustration for Kentucky faithful is no doubt due to the Wildcats poor defensive play, especially concerning Oakland guard Jack Gohlke, who put up 21 points on seven three-pointers in the first half of play. Gohlke is only averaging 12. 2 points per game this season, which is what makes his NCAA Tournament performance so surprising.

Kentucky's poor defense has been a consistent gripe from Wildcat faithful for much of the season.

The Wildcats will need to tighten up their defense in the second half if they want their NCAA Tournament dreams to continue. Kentucky's offense was solid in the first half, putting up 35 points on 40.7% shooting, but if their poor defensive effort leaks into the second half, they'll need to play elite offense to move on to the second round.

Antonio Reeves currently leads to WIldcats in scoring with 14 points. The senior guard will need to step up in a big way to ensure Big Blue is still dancing come the weekend. The winner of the Oakland-Kentucky matchup will face either North Carolina State or Texas Tech on Saturday.

Texas Tech and North Carolina State will face off on Thursday night at 9:40 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on CBS.
