The Kentucky Wildcats are still feeling the pain of their brutal first-round exit from the 2024 NCAA Tournament at the hands of the Oakland Golden Grizzlies. Speaking of ‘Golden’, could a Marquette Golden Eagles star inject hope into the underperforming SEC program in the 2024-25 college basketball season?

Marquette Golden Eagles Star Tyler Kolek To Rescue The Kentucky Wildcats?

Marquette star guard Tyler Kolek has been mentioned by Josh Yourish of Wildcat Blue Nation, as among the potential transfer portal targets by the Wildcats in the offseason.

The Kentucky boosters would certainly need to pony up with some big NIL deals to make it happen, but it’d be cheaper than paying Calipari’s $33 million buyout. If Coach Cal is truly making a change in his roster construction then a move for a veteran point guard like Kolek would signal it loud and clear. Ironically, the old one-and-done era would end in Kentucky with this move to get one year of Kolek before sending him to the league, and the new one-and-done era would be born.

Getting an experienced talent at the college level would be a deviation from the norm in Lexington under Calipari, who always reloads the Wildcats with fresh one-and-done players.

But it can’t also be denied that someone like Kolek, who just led the Marquette Golden Eagles to the Sweet 16 round of the 2024 March Madness, would be a huge addition to the Wildcats.

Then again, that seems like a long shot for now, especially with the potential of Kolek to declare for the 2024 NBA Draft.
