Miami-North Carolina men's basketball game postponed over party video

Monday's men's basketball showdown between the Miami Hurricanes and North Carolina Tar Heels was postponed, but not because of any positive COVID-19 test results.

A video shared by North Carolina student newspaper The Daily Tar Heel showed North Carolina players Day'Ron Sharpe and Armando Bacot partying without face coverings around other unmasked students following Saturday's 91-87 win over the rival Duke Blue Devils. According to Myron Medcalf of ESPN, the Atlantic Coast Conference's decision to postpone the contest is related to the video.

"The postponement follows a meeting of personnel from both schools, who mutually concluded the game could not move forward today," the ACC said in a brief statement without directly addressing the video. "Both teams continue to adhere to the minimum outlined protocols within the ACC Medical Advisory Group report, which is available on theACC.com."

According to Medcalf, the ACC can postpone or cancel a game due to an "inability to perform adequate contact tracing consistent with governmental requirements or recommendation" and the "inability to isolate new positive cases, or to quarantine high contact risk cases of the traveling and home team university students."

Miami next plays at the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Sunday. It's unknown if North Carolina will be cleared to compete at the No. 9-ranked Virginia Cavaliers on Saturday.
