Miami signs Jim Larranaga to contract extension

Miami and head men’s basketball coach Jim Larrañaga have agreed to a one-year contract extension, the team announced on Tuesday. The extension will take his deal through the 2026-27 season.

"I am excited to announce Jim's contract extension through the 2026-27 season," Miami Director of Athletics Dan Radakovich said in a Tuesday release. "Jim led our program on a remarkable run to its first Final Four this year and we are looking forward to many more seasons of success with Jim in charge."

Larranaga has been coaching for Miami since he joined the Hurricanes in 2011. He had coached at George Mason for 14 years before his hiring, leading the Patriots to a record of 273-164, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Miami's basketball program ended the 2022-23 season with a 29-8 overall record. It pushed its way to its first Final Four appearance after taking down the Texas Longhorns in an 88-81 victory in the Elite Eight. Its run ended with a 72-59 win by the UConn Huskies in the Final Four.

The extension couldn't have come at a better time for Miami and the two-time ACC Coach of the Year. The Hurricanes have a chance to be competitors in the ACC and beyond for years to come after solidifying their spot in team history with a historic run in the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship.

"I love coaching at The U. This is an incredible academic institution with a Blue Ribbon faculty," Larrañaga said in Tuesday's release. "I am grateful to have tremendous support from our administration. I want to thank President Frenk, Joe Echevarria, Rudy Fernandez and Dan Radakovich for their confidence in me.

"I am excited to continue working with the outstanding young men in our program. We enjoyed our run this year and look forward to making more history in the future."
