With every game, it’s getting harder and harder to watch Michigan basketball. Sunday wasn’t necessarily rock bottom. That’s been this entire eight-game losing streak but after yet another lopsided loss (to Ohio State this time), Michigan basketball fans and analysts are demanding a change.
Michigan basketball fans take to social media
If you are on social media at all, there isn’t much debate about what Juwan Howard’s future should be. Former players, fans, analysts — just about everyone sees the need for Michigan AD Warde Manuel to make a change.
Earlier this week, known insider John U. Bacon posted on X that it was “more likely than not” that Juwan Howard would return to the Wolverines for another season as head coach. It wasn’t a popular report among Michigan fans and it’s clear that change is needed.
It’s not like Michigan fans are frustrated without reason. The Wolverines have clinched their first last-place finish in the Big Ten in 57 years. They are 8-21 which was after a 3-0 start. That means the Wolverines are 5-21 and even John Beilein’s son is laughing at U-M.
The Wolverines trailed Ohio State by just five points at halftime on Sunday before losing the game 84-61. Ohio State subbed out its starters with around three minutes left following a 20-2 run to ice the win. Michigan basketball players battled and I don’t want to criticize them, but their head coach has done a terrible job of putting them in a position to succeed. It’s hard to watch and if Warde Manuel can’t see that Juwan must go, he’s blind and maybe he should go too.
