Michigan State basketball is officially out of the running for Colorado transfer wing J’Vonne Hadley as he’s narrowed his list to two.

Another transfer target appears to be off the market for Michigan State basketball.

After being one of two programs to set up an early Zoom call with J’Vonne Hadley, the Colorado transfer has narrowed his list down to two: Louisville and USC.

This is somewhat surprising because he was thought to be a heavy Iowa State lean just last week, but crystal balls turned cloudy and it seems like there was some disconnect between the Cyclones and Hadley. Michigan State fans were hopeful that meant he was reconsidering the Spartans as his top option, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

So now Hadley is down to two programs that have coaches who have been very active in the portal as they’ve been hired at their respective schools within the past couple of weeks. Pat Kelsey and Louisville are looking to make a drastic turnaround in 2024-25 after years of mediocrity while Eric Musselman and USC are hoping to bring the juice back to USC basketball. Both coaches are building the roster from the bottom up and Hadley apparently wants to be part of that. Is this new interest based on playing time or NIL? Honestly, probably both.

Michigan State had Hadley on its board and now it can cross that name off.

The Spartans are still looking to add a wing with size who can shoot and Tom Izzo hosted Frankie Fidler from Omaha this past weekend but it feels like Wisconsin might be the team to beat. Chucky Hepburn and Fidler are close friends and that may be the difference in this recruitment.

Back to the drawing board for Michigan State basketball unless Fidler surprises everyone and picks MSU on Monday.
