The pursuit of J’Vonne Hadley may have gotten a little more interesting for Michigan State basketball.

The main competition with Michigan State for Hadley seemed to be Iowa State as both the Cyclones and Spartans had a Zoom meeting with the Colorado transfer on Monday. But a development in Iowa State’s recruiting may have just helped the Spartans.

While in need of a wing, Iowa State reached into the portal and grabbed 6-foot-5 Northern Iowa wing transfer Nate Heise on Tuesday. He committed to Iowa State after averaging 13.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 2.4 assists this year. Heise would seemingly be fitting the role the Cyclones were recruiting Hadley to play.

While this could only help Michigan State, it doesn’t mean that Iowa State is out of the running. Many Cyclone fans believe that they were making both priorities with the intention of landing two wings. But that doesn’t exactly mean Hadley wants to join a program that just landed another player at his position. He could opt to join Michigan State where he would likely be a starting three option alongside Jaden Akins and Jeremy Fears Jr. or Tre Holloman.

The addition of a player like Hadley would be great for the floor spacing and he would allow Akins to slide back into his natural two-guard role.

Hadley averaged 11.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game as a senior for Colorado last year, shooting 54 percent from the floor and 42 percent from deep. Potentially even more importantly, he shot 84 percent from the free throw line. Spartan fans know all too well how poor the free throw shooting was this year.

There haven’t been any reports of Michigan State basketball reaching out to other wing transfers and Iowa State just landed one so this could be a positive development for the Spartans.
