The offseason has started for Nebraska basketball. In truth, it started last Friday night after the Huskers blowout loss in the NCAA tournament to Texas A&M.

That was a huge disappointment. There’s no sugar-coating it. But as Fred Hoiberg said on Friday night, there’s no reason that Nebraska basketball can’t have sustained success.

A solid offseason is going to be important and there is already some roster movement. Ramel Lloyd Jr., a redshirt freshman for the Nebraska basketball team, has entered the transfer portal according to Jaime Shaw on On3.com.

The 6-foot-6 guard came to the Huskers with plenty of promise but didn’t play much over the past two seasons and it’s hard to see how he gets on the floor in the future.

Nebraska basketball transfer portal thoughts

Juwan Gary, Brice Williams, Rienk Mast, and C.J. Wilcher could all return if they choose. Sam Hoiberg, Jamarques Lawrence, and Eli Rice are also expected back for Nebraska basketball. Lloyd could have earned a spot in the rotation this season, but it would have been tough, especially since Hoiberg seems set on upgrading the roster via the transfer portal.

Nebraska has already contacted former Michigan big man Tarris Reed, as well as Frankie Fidler from Omaha. There hasn’t been anything beyond that initial contact, but the Huskers are looking to make some additions and the transfer of Lloyd gives Nebraska another scholarship to work with.

Koren Johnson, a 6-foot-6 guard from Washington, who averaged 11 points per game and was Pac-12 Sixth Man of the Year, has also entered the portal and heard from Nebraska. He could be a potential replacement for Wilcher if he decides to move on. I view Fidler in the same light.
