Nebraska basketball is getting ready for the NCAA tournament, but in this new age of college hoops, there is no rest for the weary.
The transfer portal opened on Monday, meaning that roster building for next season is underway, even for Nebraska basketball as the Huskers have reached out to Omaha transfer Frankie Fidler according to Joe Tipton.
Fidler is a 6-foot-7 forward from the University of Omaha. He averaged 20.1 points per game this past season, as well as 6.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. Yet, landing the sweet-shooting forward won’t be easy as Alabama, Indiana, Georgetown, Ole Miss, and Arizona State are also in the mix.
The Bellevue, Nebraska native shot 35 percent from 3-point range this season, plus 45 percent from the field. He seems like a perfect fit in Fred Hoiberg’s system, although you have to worry about Creighton too, although the Blue Jays aren’t in the mix yet.
Nebraska basketball has thrived on transfers and the Huskers’ regular starting lineup for the past month or so has featured five transfers, so Fidler could be the next great addition, especially if there is some roster movement, which is always expected.

They weren’t at the same time, but it was striking to see the former Nebraska Cornhuskers athletic director doing the weird Texas A&M cult dance, while his former Nebraska football coach was defending his departure.
Rhule is a classy guy. He wasn’t going to say anything bad about Trev Alberts, nor should he. What does that accomplish? That’s for people like me to do.
But if you didn’t listen to what Rhule said, the cliff notes are that he’s committed to Nebraska football for the long haul. His son is attending the university in Lincoln. His wife is even opening a business. Rhule even said, “We are here unless you guys kick us out.”
The Nebraska football team is in good hands and as long as Rhule is around, along with Fred Hoiberg, Amy Williams, Mark Manning, and John Cook, are around the Nebraska Cornhuskers will be just fine. Rhule also threw his support behind Dennis LeBlanc, as the interim AD, so let’s take a breath and focus on the field.

Nebraska baseball ranked third in RPI
Will Bolt and the Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team are off to a hot start and swept Nicholls over the weekend, improving their record to 13-5. The Huskers have won 10 of their last 12 games and are ranked third in NCAA baseball RPI.
Nebraska hosts Omaha and South Dakota State the next two nights (6:05 CST), before hosting New Mexico State for a three-game set this weekend. Then there is a road game at Kansas State, a team ranked in the top 60 in RPI, before the start of Big Ten play on March 29th with a three-game series at Northwestern.
It might be worrisome to have lost Trev Alberts, but the Nebraska Cornhuskers are thriving and it could be a fun season for Nebraska baseball fans.
