No. 10 Kansas routs No. 8 Baylor, 83-59

No. 10 Kansas got blown out by No. 5 Kentucky at home last weekend. Seven days later, facing another top-ranked opponent, the Jayhawks flipped the script.

Kansas was the one handing out the beatdown this time, as the Jayhawks cruised to an 83-59 win over No. 8 Baylor at Allen Fieldhouse on Saturday. It was the first time the Bears have lost by double digits this season.

The Jayhawks came out firing early, jumping out to a quick 7-2 lead and making Bears coach Scott Drew burn a timeout less than three minutes into the game. They didn't take their foot off the gas, expanding their lead to 15 points by the time Baylor had reached double figures.

Leading the way early was Christian Braun, who went into halftime with 14 points. Jalen Wilson also was a force early, logging 10 points at the break to pass his average scoring mark on the year.

Baylor, meanwhile, couldn't buy a bucket early. The Bears were missing LJ Cryer, their leading scorer on the season, and it showed; they went into halftime down 39-21 and were shooting 25.8 percent from the field and 14.3 percent from behind the arc.

The second half ended up much closer on the box score, but Kansas was able to control the game and keep Baylor at a distance. The Bears performed much better offensively, including a 38.5 percent performance from 3-point range, but it wasn't enough to dig themselves out of the early hole.

Braun finished with 18 points, tied for the lead in the game with teammate Ochai Agbaji, who missed last game with COVID-19. Braun also pulled in a game-high 10 rebounds, marking his first double-double of the season. Wilson finished with 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists, and David McCormack added nine points and eight boards.

Baylor was led by Adam Flagler, who logged 16 points and four steals. Kendall Brown posted 12 points and eight rebounds, and Flo Thamba reeled in seven boards before fouling out.
