The Ohio State basketball team has done a really good job this offseason. In his first season as a head coach, Jake Diebler has navigated both recruiting and the transfer portal well. So far, he has brought Meechie Johnson back to Ohio State and landed a former five-star recruit. I’d say that’s pretty good for your first offseason as a head coach.

Now that Diebler has his staff intact and continues to do work in the portal, he has to set up Ohio State’s schedule for next year. One of the unique things in college basketball is that is done on a yearly basis. In college football, matchups are scheduled out years in advance. In college basketball, it’s more of a last-minute thing.

Ohio State basketball team will open up the 2024-25 season against Texas

Ohio State didn’t have a marquee home opponent in 2023-24. That’s something Diebler wants to change for next season. While he is still working on that, we do know when, where, and who the Buckeyes will open their season with. They will face off against the Texas Longhorns on November 4th in Las Vegas according to CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein.

The game will be played in T-Mobile Arena in Vegas. Texas is a new member of the SEC next season, so this will be an interesting matchup. The Buckeyes should have a much better team in terms of raw talent next season, although they still need to get some shooters. There is still work to be done in the transfer portal.

This is a good game for the Buckeyes to start out with. It’s a good non-conference matchup that could end up looking good on the resume at the end of the season if Ohio State can get a win. It would be a great way to start the Jake Diebler era in his full season as a head coach.
