Oklahoma State has had a rough season, but one player has been a bright spot.

OSU guard Javon Small has been the team’s motor all season, and he earned some recognition for it. Although he did not make an All-Big 12 team, Small earned an honorable mention for his 2023-24 campaign.

On Sunday, the conference announced the three All-Big 12 teams, headlined by conference player of the year and unanimous selection Jamal Shead of Houston. Although Small did not make any teams, he was the lone Cowboy with an honorable mention.

Coming off a career-best 34 points at BYU on Saturday, Small finished the regular season averaging 14.9 points. The Cowboys will need performances like his most recent in Provo to make a deep run in the Big 12 Tournament.

Throughout conference play, Small’s numbers did not waver. He averaged 14.8 points, 3.7 assists and 1.1 steals while playing all 18 conference games.

Small showed his brilliance for OSU in his third game with the team. Against Notre Dame in Brooklyn, Small scored 29 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in an overtime thriller.

That game went the same way as many OSU games have this season, ending in a loss. Still, Small’s impact kept OSU in many games it otherwise had no business being in.

He finished the regular season with 16 games scoring at least 15, including five 20-point games.

Although there were no honorable mentions listed for the conference All-Freshman team, OSU’s Brandon Garrison and Eric Dailey Jr. had solid cases for consideration. Those two are expected to be the frontcourt of the future for OSU and have shown flashes of their abilities this season.

Still, Small is the guy for the Cowboys this season, and his performances have helped give them hope throughout a rough season.
