Penn State reportedly losing Micah Shrewsberry to Notre Dame
Micah Shrewsberry is proving that one can, in fact, go home again.
ESPN's Pete Thamel and Jeff Borzello reported Wednesday afternoon that Shrewsberry is leaving his post as Penn State Nittany Lions men's basketball coach to take over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish's program.
Sources told ESPN that Shrewsberry will put pen to paper on a seven-year agreement.
"He turned down a lucrative long-term contract extension from Penn State, sources said, with the pull of going back home being a factor in his decision," Thamel and Borzello added.
CBS Sports' Matt Norlander tweeted that Shrewsberry had been Notre Dame's "top target for the past two weeks" to replace former longtime coach Mike Brey.
Norlander also said talks between Shrewsberry and Notre Dame didn't officially begin until Penn State was knocked out of the NCAA Tournament this past weekend.

In a piece published on Monday, David Jones of Penn Live noted that Shrewsberry is from Indiana and spent much of his career working in the state.
Shrewsberry was an assistant coach with the Purdue Boilermakers when he accepted the Penn State gig in March 2021.
Under Shrewsberry, Penn State went a combined 37-31 over the past two seasons. The highlight of his tenure was guiding the program to its first NCAA Tournament victory since 2001, a 76-59 win over the No. 7-seeded Texas A&M Aggies last Thursday.
On Saturday night, the No. 10-seeded Nittany Lions fell to the No. 2-seeded Texas Longhorns 71-66.
It's unclear who Penn State will pursue to serve as Shrewsberry's replacement.
