Tucker DeVries, the son of Darian, is expected to follow his dad to West Virginia, as reported by Stadium’s Jeff Goodman.

WVU is expected to announce Darian DeVries to a five-year contract on Sunday night.

Tucker is a 6-foot-7 junior who averaged 21.6 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists for the Bulldogs this past season. DeVries shot 44% from the field, 36% from three and 81% from the free throw line. DeVries is a back-to-back Missouri Valley Player of the Year, as well as an All-MVC team recipient in all three years of college basketball.

Tucker has one year of eligibility and will have to enter the transfer portal to finalize everything.

Darian and Tucker DeVries would become the first father-son duo at West Virginia since John Beilein and his son Patrick in the 2000s.

Drake finished with a 28-7 record this season, going 16-4 in the Missouri Valley Conference and then winning the MVC Tournament. Drake had four wins over NCAA Tournament teams: Oakland, Akron, Nevada and Grambling State. The Bulldogs did lose to an NCAA Tournament team in UAB earlier in the season.

DeVries leaves Drake with a 150-55 (73.2%) record over six years.

DeVries replaces interim HC Josh Eilert, who West Virginia moved on from on March 13. Eilert took over the program for nine months as he filled in after Bob Huggins’ resignation last June.

West Virginia currently hasn’t lost any of its eight eligible players for next season to the transfer portal. DeVries and his next staff will attempt to retain the roster while working at building a complete roster for the 2024-25 season.
