Report: South Alabama HC Richie Riley receives extension through 2025-26 season

When the South Alabama men's basketball team finished the 2021-2022 season at 21-12, it was their highest win total in 14 years. According to CBS Sports College Basketball Insider Jon Rothstein, the Jaguars are now ensuring that their head coach stays in the fold for at least four more years.

Riley took over at South Alabama going into the 2018-2019 campaign after the program had endured five consecutive losing seasons under Matthew Graves. Though the Jaguars haven't qualified for the NCAA Tournament yet under Riley, the 39-year-old coach has helped the club finish over .500 in each of the last three years, after the team finished 17-17 in 2017-2018.

A former guard at Eastern Kentucky, Riley coached two seasons at Nicholls State from 2016 to 2018 before heading to Mobile, Ala. He went 35-28 with the Colonels and captured a Southland Conference regular season title in his second season with the team.

He's gone 75-51 with the Jaguars and has a 110-79 overall coaching record.
