Despite lots of positive vibes surrounding Michigan basketball and the recruitment of 7-foot-1 center Vlad Goldin, new head coach Dusty May is still waiting for his first commitment.

Danny Wolf and Trey Townsend were also on campus this past weekend, along with 2024 combo guard Justin Pippen. Michigan basketball has been trending as the favorite to land Pippen since this weekend’s visit. The same can be said about Goldin.

Even multiple accounts covering FAU have posted on X that according to their sources, Goldin is going to follow Dusty May to the Michigan basketball team.

That would be a huge get. But the Wolverines need some guards too. They need 3-point shooting, playmaking, and ball-handling. Aidan Mahaney could offer them all three things.

Another transfer with ties to Michigan basketball

Mahaney is a sophomore from Saint Mary’s who just entered the transfer portal. He started 60 games in two seasons and averaged 2.3 3-point field goals per game on 37.5 percent shooting (6.1 attempts per game). He also scored 13.4 points per game last season on his way to being First-Team All-WCC.

The 6-foot-3 guard is a high-volume shooter but he also averaged 2.6 assists and 2.6 rebounds. He shot just 38 percent from the field last season but shot 81 percent at the free-throw line. Mahaney would be an ideal fit for May’s system. He also has a close connection to Justin Joyner, a new Michigan basketball assistant.

Joyner has coached Mahaney dating back to middle school, plus the past two seasons. According to Davis Moseley of 247 Sports, there is “significant smoke” about the talented guard winding up at Michigan. It would be a great fit for both sides and with Joyner on staff, it makes all the sense in the world.
