Texas land four-star power forward Nicolas Codie

In-state recruiting is the lifeblood of most college programs. That's especially true in college football, where rosters are huge and quality depth is extremely important.

It's also important in college basketball, though. If there's a star recruit in-state, your chances of success improve greatly if you can keep them in.

As such, Texas Longhorns have to be feeling after their latest 2024 hoops commitment. Nic Codie, a four-star power forward from Carrollton, Texas (Newman Smith High School), announced his commitment to Rodney Terry and his staff.

For Codie, it's all about the chance to be the hometown hero. Carrollton is less than four hours north of Austin. He's also all-in on Texas' coaching staff.

“I feel like I picked them for the coaching staff,” Codie told 247Sports. “I really love Coach RT (Rodney Terry) and Coach (Brandon) Chappell. You know, Texas is a good team. They have a past history of winning. Last year they did pretty good. And it’s my home state. Why not succeed at Texas?”

Codie is a huge commitment for the Longhorns. He's already 6-foot-9, 200 pounds and he's ranked as the top player in the state. He's also the No. 46 player nationally, according to 247Sports.

This is Texas' second commitment to the 2024 class. Codie joins five-star shooting guard Cam Scott.

Rodney's first class with the Longhorns is currently ranked No. 24 nationally.
