Another game, another dominant victory for Dan Hurley and his UConn Huskies . The reigning national champions trampled all over the No. 9 seed Northwestern Wildcats, 75-58, on Sunday during the second round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
So far, the Huskies looked every bit like the top overall seed in the Big Dance. After the win against the Wildcats, Hurley said that he believes the NCAA Selection Committee tried its best to put the Huskies in as difficult of a route in this year’s edition of March Madness as possible.
“Okay, so it gives me a little bit more us against the world stuff that I could utilize because you know I do think that the you know the committee you know has tried to make this as difficult as they can on us to do it you know. The Florida Atlantic Northwestern 8-9, obviously, you know the Auburn San Diego State and Illinois and what they look like with Iowa State, we know what they had in mind and it’s just more fuel on the fire.”
UConn Huskies Advancing To The Sweet 16 Round
Having survived two games in the tourney, the Huskies are looking forward to score another win in the Sweet 16 round where they will be facing the San Diego State Aztecs – again. That game will be a rematch of the 2023 National Championship Game that UConn won to the tune of a 76-59 score.
The Aztecs surely have an axe to grind on the Huskies. San Diego State has been impressive as well in the tournament and is coming off a monster 85-57 takedown of the Yale Bulldogs in the second round. That said, one can expect the UConn Huskies to be a hundred percent ready for the Aztecs. They’re the reigning champs for a reason.
The UConn Huskies, who also defeated the Stetson Hatters in the first round, 91-52, will be facing off against San Diego State on Wednesday in Boston.
