UConn postpones two games after ref tests positive for COVID-19

The men's basketball program of the Connecticut Huskies is temporarily pausing due to COVID-19 issues but not because anyone associated with the team recorded a positive test.

UConn confirmed on Wednesday that Thursday's home contest against the No. 3-ranked Villanova Wildcats and Sunday's matchup at the St. John's Red Storm are both postponed because an official who worked in Tuesday's game between UConn and the Butler Bulldogs tested positive for the coronavirus.

UConn defeated Butler 63-51.

"The Huskies will enter into a daily testing protocol and a modified quarantine," UConn explained. "The team will not compete against an outside opponent until it is deemed safe by medical professionals."

UConn has now had 10 games postponed this season. Butler hadn't officially addressed the positive test as of the posting of this piece.

The Huskies improved to 8-3 overall and 5-3 in conference play on Tuesday. UConn is next scheduled to face the Seton Hall Pirates on Feb. 6, but the status of that game remains up in the air and will be dependent on UConn's COVID-19 test results between Wednesday and next week.
