In a year of high expectations for the Villanova Wildcats, they brought in former team great Corey Fisher to their coaching staff. Fisher will be taking a role in the student-athlete development portion of the basketball team. Kyle Neptune gleamed over the addition of Fisher. Let’s look back at Fisher’s career and the experience he brings to this Wildcats team.

Villanova Wildcats Hire Corey Fisher to Staff

Corey Fisher’s Background

Fisher was an incredible player for the Wildcats. He was a solid player with a career average of 12.1 points per game. Fisher amassed 1672 points during his career in Pennsylvania. He was also top-eight in career assists with 487. Fisher was an all-around guard who produced big plays for this Wildcat team. Furthermore, he received accolades and made the Second-Team All-Big East in his senior season.

He also enjoyed a career overseas as well. He played over in Europe from 2011-2023, joining the staff of Villanova just this past week. This past season with Vichy Clermont, he produced 9.2 points and 2.8 assists while shooting 51.3% from two-point range.

His Addition to the Wildcats

Fisher is an excellent addition to the Wildcats because he is an example of a player who improved over his four seasons. He had his best season in his senior year. He improved his scoring, passing, steals per game, and free-throw percentage. Fisher fits the student-athlete development role well because he understands how to develop a student-athlete’s experience. He was an Honor Roll award recipient as a student in addition to his basketball accolades, so he helps the Wildcats in this area.

More importantly, he brings winning experience. While he did not win a National Championship, he got to the NCAA Tournament every year and won games in the Big East. He was a great player who produced big plays in his career. His production and experience playing in a tough Big East Conference is a plus for the players.

The Last Word on Corey Fisher

Fisher had an impressive college and overseas professional career. He makes a fine addition to the Villanova staff, as his experience will help the players improve this season. With expectations placed on this Wildcat team, Neptune did a good job hiring Fisher to help manage them.
