PITTSBURGH – It was a successful first day on the PPG Paints Arena floor for the Creighton Blue Jays. The No. 3 seed in the Midwest Region handled No. 14 Akron 77-60 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

A team familiar with March Madness, Creighton outscored the Zips 38-26 in the second half to win by 17.

Star forward Ryan Kalkbrenner totaled a game-high 23 points and eight rebounds in the victory.

Trey Alexander scored 19 points and grabbed five rebounds for the Bluejays.

Creighton moves on to play No. 11 seed Oregon on Saturday in the Round of 32.
