Watch: Mike Krzyzewski honored before final Duke home game
It was expected that Duke would roll out the red carpet for Mike Krzyzewski's final home game on Saturday, and they did not disappoint.
Around 80 former Blue Devils who played under Krzyzewski — a group self-anointed as "The Brotherhood" — and a packed arena full of Cameron Crazies welcomed the legendary coach into Cameron Indoor Stadium for the last time as he plans to hang it up after this season.
The celebration began with a pregame introduction video that chronicled Krzyzewski's rise to all-time status over his long, storied career in Durham.
Afterward, Krzyzewski emerged from the tunnel to the raucous crowd and worked his way through the gauntlet of Duke alums, who offered high-fives and congratulations aplenty.
Krzyzewski began his basketball career as a player at Army, where he played four seasons and was the captain as a senior. After spending six years in the military, he started coaching as an assistant at Indiana in 1974 before being hired as the head coach at West Point in 1975.
After six seasons at his alma mater, Krzyzewski was hired to be the next head coach at Duke in 1980. It was there that he would coach for the next 42 seasons, making himself a household name and turning around the program as a whole.
Duke has won five national champions (1991, 1992, 2001, 2010, 2015), made 12 Final Fours and won 13 ACC regular-season titles prior to this season under Krzyzewski. He is a three-time Naismith Coach of the Year winner (1989, 1992, 1999).
