Wisconsin basketball head coach Greg Gard is eyeing a Duke transfer guard in the portal that the Badgers pursued in the 2022 recruiting cycle.

Evan Flood of 247Sports reported that the Badgers are among the teams interested in Jaden Schutt, a native of Yorkville, Illinois.

Schutt, a former four-star top 100 recruit, made his way into the transfer portal on April 15 after spending two years with the Blue Devils.

“Forever grateful for my time in Durham,” Schutt said. “The experience has been like no other and I have developed wonderful relationships with coaches, teammates, and the community that I hope last a lifetime.

“Duke is a special place and I have nothing but good things to say about the place I have called home for the last two years. With that being said, I will be entering the transfer portal with three years of eligibility.”

During his freshman season in 2022-23, the 6-foot-5 shooting guard averaged 2.1 points in 6.9 minutes per game. However, an injury sidelined him for the majority of his sophomore year, resulting in a redshirt.

The Wisconsin basketball program is one of the many schools showing interest in Schutt since he entered the portal, alongside others like Iowa, Michigan, Notre Dame, Butler, and Xavier.

Badgers coaches offered Schutt out of Yorkville Christian High School and had him on campus for a handful of unofficial visits, so there’s an established relationship to work off of here.

With A.J. Storr’s departure, Wisconsin basketball is in search of a wing player who can stretch the floor, fit seamlessly into their system, and score the rock. Despite Schutt’s limited experience, akin to Storr’s situation before joining the Badgers, he’s someone who could provide the team with a lot of upside and floor spacing on offense.

We’ll see if anything more materializes, but it appears that the Wisconsin basketball team is turning the page to some potential plan B targets in the event Frankie Fidler chooses elsewhere.
