Greg Gard and the Wisconsin basketball coaching staff have missed out on what the Badgers hoped would be the final piece in its 2024 recruiting class.

On Friday, Daniel Jacobsen, the towering 7-foot-3 center initially from Mt. Horeb (WI), officially committed to the Purdue Boilermakers not long after taking his official visit to West Lafayette in September. It’s also worth noting that he has been reclassified to the 2024 recruiting class.

Choosing Purdue over offers from Illinois, Minnesota, Creighton, Clemson, New Mexico, Tulsa, Xavier, and Wisconsin, Jacobsen makes a ton of sense for a Boilermakers squad that seemingly produces impossibly giant frontcourt players year after year.

Wisconsin Basketball Misses on 2024 Recruiting Target Daniel Jacobsen

The Wisconsin Badgers coaching staff really wanted to land Daniel Jacobsen on his official visit and were eager to pair him with 2024 commits Daniel Freitag and Jack Robison. But unfortunately, it just didn’t come to fruition.

Wisconsin basketball, known for its player development, especially with stretch big men, had high hopes for Jacobsen.

The Badgers were eyeing him as a potential future defensive anchor and a shot-altering force in the paint.

Offensively, Jacobsen’s low post game, soft touch, and footwork were appealing. But what set him apart was his evolving face-up game & improving three-point shooting ability that could make him a matchup nightmare.

Despite their high hopes, Greg Gard and the Wisconsin basketball team missed out on their last remaining target in the 2024 recruiting cycle. Based on what I’ve heard, Jacobsen was the last player the coaching staff was eyeing before turning the page to the 2025 recruiting class.
