No. 13 West Virginia men's basketball postpones two more games due to COVID-19

The men's basketball team of the West Virginia Mountaineers, ranked No. 13 in the country, made news on Monday by announcing it wouldn't play against the Baylor Bears on Tuesday because of COVID-19 issues. 

That was only the beginning. 

West Virginia has since confirmed that home games against the TCU Horned Frogs on Saturday and versus the Oklahoma State Cowboys on Jan. 19 have also been postponed. 

"Our intent is to get the spread under control as soon as possible for the health and safety of all involved," WVU athletic director Shane Lyons said for Monday's statement. "While this issue has hit many college basketball programs, we have been fortunate to have played 13 games so far this season."

The Mountaineers fell to 9-4 on the campaign via a 72-70 loss to the No. 4-ranked Texas Longhorns this past Saturday. West Virginia is next scheduled to face the Kansas State Wildcats on Jan. 23. 

Unlike other schools that have encountered similar setbacks, West Virginia didn't announce a full pause. This suggests Lyons and others believe the Mountaineers will be able to prepare to face Kansas State at some point next week and won't require 14-day quarantine periods for all Tier 1 personnel.
