LSU women's coach Kim Mulkey addressed media Saturday amid speculation that she would soon be the subject of a Washington Post article, going so far as to threaten legal action against the newspaper.

In her press conference in Baton Rouge, Mulkey confirmed the existence of an upcoming article. She said former players have approached her to let her know how the article might cast her in a negative light.

"This is exactly why people don't trust journalists and the media anymore," Mulkey said. "I'm fed up, and I'm not going to let the Washington Post attack this university, this awesome team of young women I have, or me without a fight. I have hired the best defamation law firm in the country, and I will sue the Washington Post if they publish a false story about me."

Mulkey has been a highly successful coach throughout her career in charge of programs at Baylor and LSU, winning NCAA championships at both stops. She has also waded into controversy, notably coming to the defense of the Baylor football program during its sexual assault and Title IX scandal in 2017.

Mulkey finished with an .859 winning percentage over 21 seasons in Baylor with two national championships. She won another national title in her second season at LSU, where she is now 89-13 in her third year.

The Tigers play Middle Tennessee State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday.
