No. 10 South Dakota stuns No. 2 Baylor, advances to Sweet 16

On Friday, the No. 10 seed South Dakota women's basketball team earned their first NCAA Division I Tournament victory in program history, defeating No. 7 Ole Miss, 75-61. On Sunday, they pulled off the biggest upset of the women's tournament thus far and eliminated a three-time national-champion and Goliath of a team in No. 2 Baylor, 61-47.

The Coyotes' stunner over the Bears was the second shocker of the day in which a No. 10 seed downed a second seed on their home court. On Sunday afternoon, No. 10 Creighton edged out No. 2 Iowa, 64-62.

South Dakota scored the first 11 points of the contest and held Baylor for the opening 7:02 of action. The Coyotes held a commanding 16-4 lead after the first quarter, were up 34-23 at halftime and was winning 49-36 going into the final frame.

The victors were shot 8-for-16 from deep (50%), while the hosts -- who most recently won a championship in 2019 -- were only 5-for-26 from downtown. Hannah Sjerven posted a game-high 16 points in the win, while grabbing four rebounds and four steals as well.

South Dakota will play the winner of No. 3 Michigan vs. No. 11 Villanova in the Sweet 16.
