No. 5. South Carolina women's basketball pauses, postpones game due to COVID-19

The women's basketball team of the South Carolina Gamecocks, ranked No. 5 in the country, won't be playing against the Georgia Lady Bulldogs on Thursday.

"Following the results of Wednesday's COVID-19 testing, South Carolina women's basketball has paused all team activities until further test results are received," South Carolina announced in an official statement. "As a result of the combination of the positive test, contact tracing and subsequent quarantining of individuals within the program, Thursday's game against Georgia has been postponed, consistent with Southeastern Conference COVID-19 management requirements."

No makeup date for the game had been determined as of early Thursday afternoon.

Interestingly, South Carolina's contest versus the No. 10-ranked Kentucky Wildcats remains scheduled for Sunday even though NCAA basketball guidelines recommend 14-day quarantines whenever any Tier 1 person associated with a team tests positive for the coronavirus. However, the Tennessee Lady Volunteers were recently cleared to return to activities after only six days of dealing with COVID-19 concerns.

South Carolina improved to 7-1 on the season with a 77-60 win over the Alabama Crimson Tide on Monday.
