Alabama coach Nick Saban isn't interested in 'empty abyss' of retirement

Nick Saban turned 70 during the 2021 season, but the Alabama Crimson Tide coach doesn't sound close to retiring any time soon.

"Everybody asks when I'm going to retire," Saban said at a coaching clinic last month, via Tuscaloosa News. "Retire for what? I'm going to jump into an empty abyss? Of what am I going to do? 

"Because the very challenges I talk about and the things in our profession that concern me, for you and for me both in your game and our game, that's what keeps me going. That's why I get up every day. That's why I can't sleep at night sometimes. Why would you quit doing that? I haven't figured that one out yet." 

Saban has been the Alabama head coach since 2007 and has won six national championships during his tenure. He also won a national title during his time as LSU's head coach. Saban is sixth in college football history in wins.

The Crimson Tide lost in the national championship to Georgia in January and are the favorite to win it all next season too.
