23-year-old college QB granted seventh year of eligibility

Despite being part of a recruiting class that included quarterbacks who are now several seasons into their NFL careers, Oklahoma State's Alan Bowman simply can't get enough of college football.

On Thursday, Bowman received an incredible seventh season of eligibility, meaning he'll sport a Cowboys uniform again in 2024.

Bowman met the "criteria" for another year of eligibility due to redshirting at Michigan (2021 and 2022) and an injury in 2019 while playing at Texas Tech, which cut his season short after only three games.

While players sometimes spend more than four years playing football at the collegiate level, seven is a significant number of seasons. To put his lengthy stay in context, the likes of Brock Purdy, Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson made their college debuts the same year as Bowman (2018) but already have two or more seasons of pro experience under their belts.

Ecstatic over the news, the QB shared the announcement on X, formerly Twitter, where he thanked his teammates, coaches and the OSU fan base for their support during the 2023 campaign, calling it the "most fun I've ever had playing football."

"I just heard back that I was granted another year of eligibility, and we have unfinished business," Bowman wrote. "I love Stillwater and this program, so I'll return in 2024 to make a championship run."

Bowman is a gunslinger, leading the Big 12 in completions (304), attempts (501) and interceptions (14). Nevertheless, he led OSU to a 9-3 mark this season before falling to No. 7 Texas, 49-21, in the Big 12 Championship Game. He and the Cowboys would bounce back in the Texas Bowl two days after Christmas, knocking off Texas A&M 31-23 behind 402 yards and two touchdowns from the soon-to-be super-senior.
