The Texas Longhorns signing class is shaping up to be one of the very best in college football

And on Wednesday, they signed an under-the-radar, albeit critical piece to the puzzle in four-star Smithson Valley (Spring Branch, TX) receiver Freddie Dubose Jr.

Dubose cited his connection with the Longhorns staff as a main reason for his decision to join Texas, calling Austin a "home feel" that fits his needs.

"I just love the coaching staff," Dubose told LonghornsCountry.com last spring. "Coach [Steve] Sark and coach [Chris] Jackson, I like them a lot."

Dubose fits well in Sarkisian’s offense as well, possessing electric speed and athleticism. He posted a 22.47 200-meter time in March and a 46-9 triple jump as a freshman in 2021.

One area that has Dubose excited about becoming a Longhorn is the talent at quarterback, where the Longhorns will have star Quinn Ewers, top recruit Arch Manning, and incoming freshman Trey Owens when Dubose reaches campus.

Trust is a crucial factor for what Dubose is looking for. As for Texas, he said he feels every quarterback will be able to find him with ease in the passing game.

"I know I'm going to have somebody that can put it in my hands," said Dubose. "I know that I can have somebody that I can trust with the ball at the quarterback position."

He chose the Longhorns over schools such as Texas A&M, Oregon, Arkansas, Nebraska, TCU, and Texas Tech among others.

Dubose ranks as the No. 58 player in the state of Texas and No. 59 wideout in the country per the On3 Industry Ranking.
