Alabama and Georgia have become two of the most underrated rivals in college football, with both teams being the head class of the sport for the last five years, and both are playing in the SEC. Alabama and Georgia don’t play each other on the field every year. Still, they battle each other off the field in recruiting. Now, with Alabama’s head coach Nick Saban retiring, the Crimson Tide have taken a back seat to the Bulldogs, and on Friday, Alabama saw one of their former commits head to Georgia.

Alabama Loses Out On Mason Short

Hayes Fawcett from On3.com states, “Four-Star OL Mason Short has Committed to Georgia.”

Short is from Evans, Georgia, and chose the Bulldogs over Ohio State, Clemson, and Kentucky.

According to 247sports.com, Short is the 16th-best inside offensive lineman in the 2025 class and de-committed from Alabama on January 16th.

Georgia Is Cleaning Up On Crimson Tide Players

Short’s decommitment came right after Saban retired, so Short was only heading to the Crimson Tide because of Saban.

On the other hand, Georgia is now cleaning up the Crimson Tide decommits, and I can’t blame them. The Bulldogs have won two of the last three titles and have the best coach in college football, Kirby Smart, who is by far the best coach in the sport. Saban is now gone.

Alabama should still be excellent under new head coach Kalen DeBoer, but he must prove it on the field before players start lining up and want to go back to school there.
