The Alabama Crimson Tide didn't have the 2024 season that anyone wanted.
A year after making it to the final four, the team missed the 12-team playoff entirely.
And while many thought they were deserving of that, Kalen DeBoer and many within Alabama's fanbase thought some teams with cupcake schedules were awarded over Alabama...
Kalen DeBoer would have liked to see other teams play Alabama's schedule
"You wonder what would have happened if other people would have played our schedule," DeBoer said on Tuesday via Brett McMurphy on Twitter-X.
Look, I know everyone is going to say, 'well, don't lose to Vanderbilt and Oklahoma in the fashion that you did.' And I totally agree with that. The way the team crumbled against the Sooners was not worthy of a College Football Playoff seed.
You know what was though? Beating the Georgia Bulldogs, shutting out a top 25 ranked Missouri Tigers. Embarrassing an LSU team that had playoff expectations before the season. Taking down a South Carolina team that was one of the best in the conference by the end of the season.
Guess who didn't have to play that scehdule? Oh I don't know, Indiana, Arizona State and Boise State, teams who were all awarded playoff spots in the 12-team playoff. And that's who DeBoer is referring to.
The teams who didn't play in the hardest conference in the sport, have no real wins on their resume and were handed a spot in the playoff. And how did that work out for Indiana, Boise State and ASU? Oh that's right, all three lost in their first game, even with Boise State and ASU coming off first-round byes.
And to a certain degree, the CFP committee agrees with DeBoer. They knew they messed it up when Boise State and ASU of all teams, earning byes, and they have corrected that formatting going forward...
So two things can be true. Yes, Alabama had some bad losses. They also had a better overtall rsume, and certainly better wins than a couple of teams who made it to the playoff, and that's all DeBoer was saying here.
