Another member of the Crimson Tide has made the decision turn pro. Linebacker Christian Harris has declared for the 2022 NFL Draft, becoming the sixth underclassmen from Alabama to do so.
In an Instagram post, Harris says in part:
“First, I want to thank God for blessing me with the opportunity to play at the University of Alabama. I want to thank family, friends and coaches for supporting me, and believing in me through the adversity we faced. Their support is something I am forever thankful for. I want to especially thank coach Saban coach Goldins for… instilling values that I will take with me on and off the field. Over the past three years, I have developed amazing relationships and made everlasting memories with my teammates… After carefully weighing my options with my family, I know I am ready to accomplish my next goal.”
The announcement came on Monday - the deadline for underclassmen to declare for the draft – and marks the third defensive starter from Alabama (along with defensive linemen Phidarian Mathis and cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis) who is turning pro. The junior posted 80 total tackles, including 11.5 for a loss, along with 5.5 sacks and two forced fumbles in 2021 en route to another appearance in the national title game.
His performance this season made him a semifinalist for both the Butkus and Lombardi Awards, demonstrating his talent and off-the-field character. The 6-2, 230-pounder should be one of the top middle linebackers taken in the draft. He is ranked No. 3 at the position by ESPN’s Mel Kiper.
