With the transfer portal window officially open, Alabama has seen its first player test the waters.

Quarterback Tyler Buchner entered his name into the portal on Monday according to On3’s Pete Nakos and appears to be changing sports as he entered the portal as a men’s lacrosse player.

A report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel also shared that Buchner will explore his lacrosse options this spring but is not ruling out a return to football. Buchner was previously one of the top lacrosse recruits in the nation before choosing football.

Buchner spent the first two seasons of his career at Notre Dame before transferring to Alabama in the summer. He appeared in three games during the 2023 season completing 8-of-19 passes for 61 yards with three rushes for 20 yards and one rushing touchdown.

Buchner started one game during his short stint at Alabama which came during its Week 3 matchup with South Florida but was ultimately replaced in the game by Ty Simpson.
