It no longer has Nick Saban as its head coach, but can Alabama still compete for championships?
Kalen DeBoer wants nothing more than to show college football he can build on the foundation Saban laid.
The Crimson Tide had a good spring practice, yet several feel this team does not have enough to contend for a national championship or challenge for a Southeastern Conference title. In an interview with a veteran Crimson Tide wide receiver via “The Bama Standard,” the panel learned quickly that the Tide is ‘not vulnerable’ even without Saban no longer being there.
“Me, personally, I love this situation,” Alabama receiver Kobe Prentice said about the Tide getting overlooked.
“When you overlook me or you think I’m not even a factor or my time, you think we are not going to come with it this year, when you don’t feel threatened by us that’s when I perform the best. I feel like a lot of guys know that. We talk about it every day in the locker room. They think just because Saban is gone they think we are sweet in a way, but they are going to see this year.”
Prentice, a junior, has emerged as the leading receiver in the room. He finished last season with 18 catches for 314 yards and two touchdowns. Prentice totaled 49 receptions for 645 yards and four touchdowns in two years.
Alabama fans look forward to seeing him have a 1,000-yard campaign in the fall.
