Alabama will kick off its 2024 season against Western Kentucky on August 31st, starting a new era for the team that lost head coach Nick Saban and hired Kalen DeBoer, one of the brightest coaches in college football.

Kalen DeBoer Was The Right Man For The Job

Many have wondered if DeBoer is the right man for the job since he had never coached in the South before. You know, when it comes to college football, the South is the biggest and best area for the best players in the country. You have to be able to recruit in your area if you want to win games in the SEC, and DeBoer has done a pretty good job getting players from Alabama, Louisiana, Florida, and Georgia. Still, he has also lost some players on his roster, and another big name hit the portal on Tuesday.

Alabama Loses A Key Defensive Lineman

According to Matt Zenitz from 247sports.com, defensive lineman Khurtiss Perry is expected to enter the transfer portal.

Perry was the 54th-best overall player and the tenth-best defensive lineman in the 2022 class. Perry is from Alabama, so he will likely leave home to play the next part of his college football journey.

Perry Didn’t See Much Action In Two Seasons With The Program

Even though Perry was a very high recruit two years ago, he hardly played any football the last two seasons. He didn’t see any action in 2022 and played in one game against Middle Tennessee in 2023, but that didn’t mean he wouldn’t have a role this upcoming season; he will never know now since he looks to be leaving the school.
