The Alcorn State Braves (2-2) of the SWAC West Division hosted the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions (2-2) of the SWAC West Division.

The Braves were coming off a hard-fought win against the McNeese State Cowboys of the Southland Conference. They are currently 2nd in SWAC West Division.

The Golden Lions were coming off a tough loss from The Oklahoma State University Cowboys of the BIG 12 Conference. They are currently 4th in SWAC West Division.

The 2021 edition was decided by one point victory for the Braves. The Golden Lions jumped out to a 23-7 first quarter lead but the Braves battled back for a thrilling victory.

Braves Recap

The Braves opened the scoring with a 44-yard run by RB Jarveon Howard after an attempted onside kick to begin the game. The Golden Lions scored two touchdowns to take a 14-7 lead. The Braves then tacked on a field goal by K Noah Kiani to make the score 14-10 at the end of the first half. The second half started with the Golden Lions scoring a touchdown going up 21-10.

The Braves then came back with four straight touchdowns. Three touchdown runs by RB Jarveon Howard with of 11-yards, 24-yards and 78-yards runs respectfully. He finished with a dominating 299 rushing yards averaging 13 yards per carry. RB J Leatherwood tacked on a 7-yard run to bring the final score 38-21.

Braves Defense

The defense was led in tackles by DB Macarius Blount LB Trevor James with six each. DB Andrew Smith had five tackles. LB Mikail Webb with four tackles and a sack. DB Malcolm Magee had two tackles and a pick.

The Braves continued their winning ways with a dominant ground game. They should enjoy their well-earned bye week.

Next Opponent

Following their win over the Golden Lions, the Alcorn State Braves (2-2) will travel to play the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils (0-4) on October 8, 2022 at 7:00pm (EST)
