HOUSTON - During the SWAC Coaches press conference on Monday, Texas Southern head coach Charles McKinney announced that Andrew Body would provide an update on his status with the team.

A source told HBCU Legends that Body is considering redshirting this season to extend his NCAA eligibility. He would have two years remaining to play collegiate football. No one from Texas Southern or Andrew Body's family has mentioned him entering the NCAA transfer portal.

Redshirting is when a college athlete chooses to sit out of competition for a year. During this time, the athlete can practice with the team but cannot compete in games against other teams. They can still participate in all team activities, such as training, and receive benefits like academic tutoring.

The NCAA allows every athlete to redshirt for one season during their career. The athlete can sit out one season and maintain four years of eligibility.

Body played in the season-opening 37-34 overtime loss against Prairie View A&M. He completed 18 of 38 attempts for 286 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions. At the 2023 SWAC Media Day, Body was named SWAC Preseason 2nd-Team Quarterback by the coaches and sports information directors.

The Corpus Christi native "finished the 2021 season as the TSU single-season record holder in total offense with 265.9 yards per game while finishing second in the SWAC and fourth-all time in single-season passing at TSU with 2,017 passing yards."
