Arizona football coach Kevin Sumlin remains asymptomatic after testing positive for coronavirus

Despite recently testing positive for the coronavirus and entering self-isolation, Arizona Wildcats coach Kevin Sumlin told reporters he remains asymptomatic and is working on a plan to return to in-person coaching as soon as possible.

"It's unfortunate, but we'll see where we are at the end of the week," Sumlin explained during a videoconference call, per Kyle Bonagura of ESPN. "From a timeline standpoint, I was tested last week but it wasn't confirmed until this weekend. So, it's about a week into this thing. I don't have symptoms. Neither does my son."

Arizona confirmed Sumlin's positive test on Monday.

"The lesson is this thing is serious and no matter what precautions you have, you have to be extremely aggressive about your protection, about your health and as well as others," Sumlin added after repeating that he doesn't know how he contracted the coronavirus.

"Hey listen, I'm not the only one that this has happened to, even though I've been really vigilant about what's happened. I've been fortunate over the last week about symptoms and being asymptomatic and so is my son.

"So, if there's anything that's good out of it, it's become that. You cannot be too careful. You just can't."

It's expected Sumlin will continue using video conferencing for team sessions when Arizona opens training camp on Friday.

The Pac-12 postponed football and other fall sports on Aug. 11 because of the pandemic but reversed course in September and unveiled plans for six-game conference-only schedules.

Arizona begins its campaign at Utah on Nov. 7.
