Arizona QB Jordan McCloud out for season, to have surgery

The Arizona Wildcats are having a season to forget and fell to 0-5 via Saturday's 34-16 loss to the UCLA Bruins. 

Arizona coach Jedd Fisch confirmed more bad news about the campaign on Monday. 

According to Adam Rittenberg of ESPN, Fisch told reporters that starting quarterback Jordan McCloud will miss the rest of the season and have surgery to repair knee and ankle injuries. McCloud was Arizona's QB1 for the past two games, and he ends his year with 481 passing yards, two touchdown throws, and five interceptions with 75 rushing yards on 18 attempts. 

"This is not a nine-month or 12-month injury by any means," Fisch explained about the sophomore, who transferred from South Florida. "This is more of just unfortunately where we are in the season." 

Redshirt freshman Gunner Cruz, who started earlier in the season, returns to the top of the depth chart heading into this coming Saturday's matchup against the 1-4 Colorado Buffaloes. Cruz has completed 48 of 71 passes for 454 yards with a pair of touchdowns and also two interceptions. 

"Gunner won the job in training camp because of the way he was able to throw the football in training camp," Fisch added about his new starter. "We have to now reverse course ... and remind him why he won the job."
