A calm Thursday afternoon in Tempe was rocked with the news of Arizona State quarterback Jaden Rashada entering the transfer portal.

Rashada, a former four-star recruit, started three games last season for the Sun Devils. The true freshman at the time won the starting job in the fall. Unfortunately, injuries derailed his freshman campaign. Due to Rashada’s transfer, the Sun Devils only have two scholarship quarterbacks left on the roster. Both Trenton Bourguet and Sam Leavitt remain at the QB position for ASU.

Jaden Rashada enters the transfer portal

Losing Rashada to the transfer portal is a big hit for the Sun Devil offense. Last season Rashada threw for 485 yards, four touchdowns, and three interceptions in his three games played. While the young quarterback had growing pains, the potential oozed out of the California native.

“To ASU,” Rashada wrote in a social media post on Thursday. “I want to first start off by thanking my teammates, we shared a bond that I’ll remember forever, (I) love each and every one of you guys, (I’m) thankful for the time we spent together, and wish you guys the best of luck.”

“(I) want to also thank all the coaches that have gotten me better and helped me, not only as a player but a person as well. A special thank you to Coach Dilly (Dillingham)! (He’s a) one of-a-kind coach who is the same person every day and cares a lot about the university and his players…”

“… With that being said,” Rashada continued. ” I’ll be entering my name in the transfer portal seeking the best fit for my career!”

Dillingham praises Rashada

Arizona State football head coach Kenny Dillingham offered a positive message for Rashada on social media following the news of his transfer.

“Always rooting for you!!! Go find your spot and go be great like I know you can”
