Boise State's roster will have nine new transfer players in 2024: five from other D-I schools, four from junior colleges. Each of those pieces helped the Bronco's class become the highest-rated in the Mountain West, as well as the highest-rated in Boise State history.
As Spencer Danielson enters his first full season as the Broncos' head coach, can each of those pieces make an immediate impact? These five are the most likely candidates to do so, in our eyes.
Jeremiah Earby (DB - Cal)
In 2022, Earby was a second-team selection to College Football Network's All-America list. He had 62 tackles in two seasons at Cal, with his playing time significantly dipping in 2023. The East Palo Alto native defended 19 passes with two interceptions and two fumble recoveries with the Golden Bears. With two seasons of eligibility remaining, Earby could be an important part of Danielson's defense even past this upcoming year.
Tavion Woodard (DL - Ball State)
In 42 appearances for Ball State, Woodard totaled 83 tackles with 17 for a loss. He also had 11 sacks. Putting him across from the exceptionally athletic Ahmed Hassanein at the other defensive end, Boise could have the best pass rush in the Mountain West in 2024.
Cam Camper (WR - Indiana)
The departure of Eric McAlister means that the Broncos could use another deep threat. The ex-Hoosier could fill that gap. The graduate student averaged just under five catches per game with an average of 13.5 yards per catch at Indiana. He'll be one of two grad student receivers, at least based on Boise's spring roster.
Chris Marshall (WR - Kilgore JC/Texas A&M)
Coming out of high school, Marshall was a five-star recruit with a composite score of 0.9885 from 247Sports. He originally signed with Texas A&M, where he played the 2022 season catching 11 balls for 108 yards. He transferred to Ole Miss after that season, where he was dismissed in spring practices. Marshall spent the 2023 season at Kilgore Junior College, where he became the #1 overall JUCO player in the 2024 class.
Malachi Nelson (QB - USC)
With the departure of Taylen Green, the starting quarterback position is open. Occasional starter Maddux Madsen is still around and participating in spring practice, but it remains to be seen how well he'll bounce back from a knee injury that ended his season. Redshirt freshman CJ Tiller is also on the roster after starting in the LA Bowl loss.
Nelson, meanwhile, was the #1 high school recruit in the nation prior to joining USC last season. He threw just three passes in relief of Caleb Williams, but the Los Alamitos product has sky-high potential.
