Over the past two days, Michigan football has lost three players to the transfer portal. It started with the departure of DJ Waller on Wednesday and continued on Thursday as Jeremiah Beasley and Amir Herring — two in-state commitments — entered the portal too.

Beasley just enrolled this spring so he was a true freshman. He’ll leave Michigan football without playing a snap. My guess is he winds up at Kentucky, just like DJ Waller. Amir Herring might be headed there too.

Flat out, if Clink is playing the middle man between these guys and the Kentucky coaching staff, it will be disappointing but the Wolverines need to start tampering too.

Thoughts on transfer portal departures for Michigan

Regardless, the losses of Herring and Beasley aren’t likely to impact Michigan football this season. The Wolverines were kicking the tires on transfer portal linebackers. Plus, Jimmy Rolder played well and Cole Sullivan makes me feel good about the position moving forward. Still, I hate to see Beasley leave.

The same goes for Herring. I thought he played well on Saturday in the Michigan football spring game. Yet, it’s probably going to be a long time before he sees the field. Raheem Anderson is fighting to get on the field as a center/guard and he’s farther ahead than Herring.

Beyond that, Michigan football signed a stellar O-line class. Waller is the biggest loss. Michigan was thin at cornerback with him and now, the Wolverines need to add at least one corner, maybe two.

Hopefully, the departures are the last ones, but I have to say, I doubt it. But as long as none of the starters walk out the door, Michigan football will be just fine.
