Brian Kelly adds former LSU assistant Frank Wilson to coaching staff
One week after being named the new head coach at LSU, Brian Kelly started his process of bringing in big-name assistants.
Kelly's deal was announced as a 10-year, $95 million contract plus incentives last week, and he was formally introduced on Wednesday.
The Tigers were national champions only two years ago after Ed Orgeron led the team to a perfect 15-0 record in the 2019 season. The team went 5-5 in 2020 and 6-6 in 2021 though and reached a separation agreement with Orgeron in October.
After landing his first college coaching job as a running backs and special teams coach with Ole Miss in 2005, Wilson made stops with Southern Mississippi and Tennessee before joining LSU as an assistant 2010. Wilson stayed with the Tigers through 2015 and then was the head coach at the University of Texas at San Antonio from 2016 through 2019..
The 48-year-old New Orleans native was hired as the head coach of McNeese State in January 2020.
